PROVINCE ACCEPTS UPPER MIDWEST REQUEST TO EXPAND SCOPE OF INQUIRY

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Anglican Church in North America with an important update regarding the previously announced situation in the Diocese of the Upper Midwest.
As more information has come to light and additional allegations regarding abuse of power within the Diocese have been made, the Bishop’s Council of the Diocese has requested that the Province expand the scope of its work to include these matters. The Executive Committee has accepted this request.
Earlier this week, the Executive Committee seated the Provincial Response Team. In addition to the independent investigation to be overseen by the Provincial Response Team, there is an upcoming criminal court case and multiple ongoing criminal investigations. We are mindful of these dynamics and, in order to not prejudice these proceedings prior to their conclusions, our public communication may, of necessity, be limited.
