ACNAtoo Statement regarding Deacon Val McIntyre
ACNAtoo consistently argues that internal investigations are not only deeply problematic, but that they are unable to identify and address the root of the abuse.
Yesterday (December 12, 2021) Dean Steve Williamson of Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton, IL reinstated Deacon Val McIntyre and publicly apologized to her at length. The reinstatement came after a sham internal review, despite the dean and leaders being informed of significant pastoral malpractice. The harm done by Dcn. McIntyre, which goes back many years and has continued until the present, includes confidentiality violations of multiple Rez parishioners, spiritual abuse, pastoral negligence, and pressuring abused spouses to stay in their marriages/homes.
In our forthcoming education piece, we will review this situation and other cases of pastoral malpractice at Church of the Resurrection to explain why internal investigations cannot bring justice or safety.
